The 3rd Army Infantry Battalion, established in 1784, is the longest standing infantry battalion but since 1948 has been the ceremonial unit of the Army performing ceremonial functions, but most notably performing funeral service details at Arlington National Cemetery. In this book, Senator Tom Cotton (former member of the Old Guard) describes the history and function of the Old Guard.
