Pale Horse

Book #16: Pale Horse: Hunting Terrorists and Commanding Heroes with the 101st Airborne Division, Jimmy Blackmon

“Behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death.” This imagery from Revelation 6:8 was taken as the unit motto for the 101st Airborne Task Force Pale Horse.  Pale Horse was a unit of rotor-wing, low-altitude support aircraft consisting of the Apaches, Kiowas, Blackhawks and Chinooks, their pilots and support personnel.  These soldiers were tasked with the mission of supplying and supporting ground troops deployed at forward operating bases in Eastern Afghanistan.  It is a fascinating look into deployment and operations of the men and women who took to the skies to fight in some of the most notable moments in the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan.
