We have all encountered a teen sucked in to the vortex of a phone, or seen some catastrophic accident due to enraptured attention to 2” x 5” screen. But what is it about these devices that have permeated our lives that is so enchanting. In this book, Adam Alter discusses the addictive roots underneath the behavior of individuals on their devices. Like a canary in a coal mine, I found this a fascinating and alarming read. Between discussions of privacy concerns, testimony of big tech CEOs about business intents and books like this, I have taken a serious look at my own tech consumption. While devices are an amazing tool, they need to be used wisely. I encourage you, put down your phone, escape the vortex and read!
