Book #22: Free to Choose: A Personal Statement, Milton & Rose Friedman
It’s the Economy, Stupid. These words immortalized President Clinton’s 1992 presidential election highlight the central role that the economy has in public policy. Over the last century, the government has become more and more central in the American economy. We have seen a tension between free markets vs centrally planned economics. In this book, Milton Friedman argues that the most efficient and prosperous economy is the economy that is free of bureaucratic intervention. It is the free market that brings the most freedom and most upward mobility to the most people. This is an excellent treatise on free market economics in the context of American public policy.
